i know a ford engineer, he was given a 2005 escape V6 when it was brand new so that he could see how long it will last without an oil change, he was at 61,000 last i heard and it still ran fine.

I'm somewhere around 20K on the exploder with no oil change. It's intentional though. Still looks pretty good, no chunks yet from overheating or anything. I'm getting rid of it tomorrow anyway so I never had the oportunity to kill it.

read a story once aboot a volvo 740.

apparently the owner did no service on it, whatsoever (except brake pads and such parts, that u HAVE to replace). it had ~+300k km on it...

volvo actually took notice of it, and if i remember correctly bought the car from him, just to do measurments.

and it worked just fine.

A story about oil - how i could not belive it when a new guy at my garage took almost an hour to change the oil, so i went over to see why he was taking so long. He had drained the oil and changed the filter, he then went to fill up the oil but instead of taking of the filler cap he had removed the dip-stick and had a funnel on the top and was poring the oil that way.

What a fucking numpty when i showed him the filler cap he stop what he was doing went and washed his hands and left with out saying a word, he never returned. But as he lives in the village my garage is in we see him often - he has new job of picking up rubbish.

My sister changes the oil on her '97 Altima every 20,000 miles. It's got 160,000 now and purrs like a kitten. I do my own at 3,000 though, even though it's a bit too often.

My 97 Neon went 27K between oil changes after 100K and blew the head gasket at 145K. What a piece of crap. I just keep adding more oil when it got low. Worked like a champ till it blew up. Oh well... atleast it's one less neon out on the road. :p

You're not crazy, just cautious, like me ;)
Why royal purple in the '64, but Mobil in the '57?

Synthetic in the 300zx. Regular in the Maxima and Pathfinder. All changes at 3k. I'm anal about maintenance. I change the coolant, transmission oil, differential oil, fuel filters, air filters, etc. per the owners manual or sooner.

That's just plain crazy, a car like that, how could you neglect it like that?
