Yea so I have a wisdom tooth coming in. I was wondering does it suck ass to have this thing pulled? I don't know if it's growing in wrong or not. If it grows in straight it can't be that bad right? Share some wisdom tooth experiences. Do you still have them or got em pulled or what?

If they come in straight up they should be fine. Ususally they are impacted (they grow in pushing on the other teeth). This can jack your teeth up. It really sucks if you have already spent money on braces. Getting them pulled isn't too big of a deal. Most people do it. I had to go in twice. They pulled three the first time. The 4th wasn't ready so they had to wait a year till it was ready to pull. It sucks having to do that shit twice. I was also awake when it happened. Both times. Just all numbed up and on valium. I suggest getting put under while it is done.

I had two wisdoms pulled. And one of them was impacted as sector9 was saying. The dentist had to cut my gum in order to get it out. I had the one it was next to removed as well. So now I can only chew with one side of my mouth. The stitches took about a week to heal. I did enjoy the pain pills they gave me though. Oh, and if you smoke, put a gauze over the socket so it doesn't become dry. If you get a dry socket, it's going to hurt. Good luck to ya.

    Oh god . . . here's my story:

I had all 4 of them pulled at the same time about 2 years ago. My mom drove me. They gave me valium and novocaine. Otherwise I was wide awake for the whole thing. All I have to say is that it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. Pay extra for the anesthesia! On the way home my mouth was so numb that I couldn't bite down on the gauze enough to stop the bleeding. Well, soon enough a slimy mixture of blood and saliva was running down my mouth and all over my pink shirt (don't ask me why I remember the color of my shirt!) I was so out of it from the drugs that I didn't notice and when I saw myself in the mirror I screamed hysterically. My mom almost crashed the car and had to pull over on the freeway. Let me just tell you, that bottle of vicodin sure did wonders after that!!! :)

Yea the one I have coming in doesn't hurt yet. But, these stories are getting me nervous and I have gone through mouth surgery and braces already and it all sucked ass. The surgery didn't allow to eat for about a week, plus stuffing kleenex to stop the bleeding for about 3 days. I don't want to go through that again, hopefully I will be fine. *Crosses fingers* :(

If you have already had braces go see the dentist. The wisdom teeth can fuck up all the work the braces did. Then you had the braces for nothing. I just suggest doing what sickgirl suggests and get the anesthesia. I was awake for them also. It wasn't that bad. You can't feel it, but you can tell when they cut into your gums and you can hear it all. If I could have done it again I would have been put under. It all sounds bad, but I am sure you will be fine.

i wasn't a sleep, but they gave some kind of amnesia so i can't remember a thing.

i couldnt keep anything down for 2 days (lost 7 pounds :awesome:), but other than that it wasnt THAT bad

Yeah, seriously. It's really not as bad as it sounds. Just make sure you get put the fuck to sleep!! Or else you're going to hear each and everyone one of those teeth shattered into hundreds of pieces (if they're impacted.) The sound of that alone has the ability to traumatize.

I heard that a root canal is worse, is that true?

well they only drill a hole in your tooth ;)

whats worse is when the plaque builds up under your gums and they have to cut your gums and get all the orange colored stuff out of there. I havent had that done, thankfully. :D

Sure thing hun, I'm sure I could find a way to comfort you . . . if you split those pain meds with me!! :D

I had a root canal that went bad. They gave me the legal amount of novacaine and I could still feel them poking at my nerves. That was a horrid pain.

I've had a lot of that stuff done. The deep cleaning twice(many years apart) and you want to be out for that and get some pills to go. :)
But wisdom teeth pulled? Nothing to it for me, and I was fine the next day.
I've never had root canal though.
Don't get all psyched out about it, it's not worth it, it'll be fine.

Yea back in my sophmore days of highschool I almost had the same thing. First I had surgery to take out some impacted teeth up near my nose then got some teeth taken out in the back, all this and no pain killers, except tylenol..yay..., then bam got the fun times of braces. Can't relate to you on the pneumonia though.

they took out my I teeth in preparation for braces back in elementary school. Had 3 adult teeth pulled, then a baby tooth, then dug down into the jaw, underneath the baby tooth in order to pull the developing adult tooth out as well. let me tell you, that was NOT fun.

had 2 wisdoms removed about a month ago. I think the guy did a shoddy job, my gum still isn't healed yet and I still can't eat large (aka anything thicker than my thumb...sandwiches are extremely difficult) because my jaw won't open enough to allow it to fit yet. And there's a big gap in my gumline where it should be closed...like there's an invisible space there where the tooth should be. I'm hoping the gumline will close up around my tooth eventually. I keep getting food stuck back there and it sucks because it's just a pocket back there for them.

I got vicodin too (hydrocodone)...good stuff, although I was hinted at to take double dosage in order to get high off it  I was taking too many pills after my surgery though. I had 5 various pills I was taking afterwards for the swelling, pain, and infection prevention. Not to mention I couldn't eat anything that was chewier than water.

buy packages of Ensure or some other drink meal thing. it'll be the only thing you can get past your jaw for at least a few days. (slim fast works too, however, slim fast is some of the nastiest stuff you'll send through your system. and it makes urine smell funky...at least the cappuccino flavored ones do)
