Yea, I got an AP-WH test coming up, and I need some help with one time period in History. WW1 - WW2. I know pretty much everything else, and I know key stuff about WW1 - WW2, but I need other facts/details. I'm a little hazy on this subject, so any dates/important events would be greatly appreciated. Especially for WW1.

Coincidentaly, my teacher is thinking the DBQ for the test might relate to this subject, so I need all the "useless" facts you know!

The AP book doesn't examine WW1 AT ALL. It covers this War in 2 pages. This section of the book needs serious additions. WW2 it covers in 6 pages. Just key events, like Krystallnacht (SP?) and stuff like that. I need other smaller important events/battles/anything you know. Infact, just list whatever you think is important, even if you think I might already know it.

He was assinated by a terroist group called the Black Hand. He was riding in a convertable down the street with his wife. They were going to some kind of meeting. Anyway, one of the members of the black hand terroristt group throws a bomb at the car but misses. The bomb goes off and kills a bunch of people..... The guy who threw the bomb pops a cyanide pill and trys to drown himself in a river nearby. So after all that the archduke decides to keep going and not to delay the meeting type thing. He didnt delay it to show that he was strong and not even an attepmy on his life could affect him... So he makes it to the meeting alive...... After the meeting is over he gets back in the car with his wife and the driver takes off.... The driver takes a wrong turn down a street and stops the car to back up and turn around. Coidencidentally (SP) there was another member of the black hand on the street where they made the wrong turn. The man jumped on the back of the car and shoots the ArchDuke and his wife dead.

As well as their unborn child.

My favorite from World War 1 has to be the Christmas "truce" between British and German troops. German troops began decorating the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres, Belgium for Christmas. They began by placing candles on trees, then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols. The British troops in the trenches across from them responded by singing English carols. They had a sort of singing war by shouting out holiday greetings at each other. Eventually, there were calls across the trenches to go out into "no man's land," where the troops exchanged gifts. Whiskey, cigars, etc. The artillery in the region didn't fire and was silent through Christmas, but up until New Years in some places.

British commanders John French and Horace Smith-Dorrien made sure that no truce would be allowed again. In all of the following years of the war, artillery bombardments were ordered on Christmas Eve to insure that there were no further lulls in the combat. Troops were also rotated through various sectors of the front to prevent the troops from becoming overly familiar with the enemy troops. And, if I remember correctly, they actually had to switch most of the troops out that were involved in that Christmas truce, because the soldiers were too well acquainted with their enemy.

WW1. Remember, Arch duke killed in Sarejavo. Remember these people: Otto Von Bismark. Founder of the alliance system. Koch. Commander of all allied powers. Pershing. Commander of U.S. forces. The Keiser. Leader of Germany. Remember this term. Balkin Powder Keg. Remember what caused U.S involvment-Lustitania, the Zimmerman note. Remember Wilson's 14 points. One was the formation of Legue of Nations and remmber that the U.S. did not join it.

WWII Remember these three turning point battles battles. El-Alamain, Stalingrad and Midway. Remember these three people: who were at the Malta Conference, FDR, Churchill, Stalin. Remeber this Japanese term "Greater co-prosparity east asian sphere of influence" That may not be exactly right. Blitzkreig (lighning war). Island hopping. Land lease act. Remember Enola Gay, Little Boy, Big Boy Nagasaki, Heroshima. Nerumberg trials. Remember the battle of Britain. Remember Eisenhower supreme allied Commander. Remember MacArthur. Commander of allied forces in Pacific.

Those are the basics. Can't really get into detail since I don't know the questions that will be on your test.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm learning some stuff. I never knew the terrorist groups name, or the exact details of his death. The Christmas Truce was entireley new to me, and many of the things bufatty listed refreshed my memory and gave me stuff to look up.

Thanks guys, and oh Kane, I'll keep that in mind :p

Please list anything else you think is important. Thanks again, WW1/WW2 is my weakness, too many things happening at once. But I really like the time period.

Also, could somone elaborate on the Russio-japanese war? I think thats what it is. My teacher skipped this entire segment, and I was looking online when I saw a reference to it.

Hey s1000, I will lend you my wisdom.......by copying it out of my history book.

Anjroo already told you this, but I said it straight from the book with a little more detail. - June 28, 1914 a warm day in Saravejo, capital of the Austrian province of Bosnia. Despite that heat, many people were crowded at the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Not everyone in Saravejo liked this guy. Most Bosnians were Serbs, a Slavic people. Many of those people wanted Bosnia to become part of Serbia, a neighboring Slavic country. Finally the Archduke arrived in a car with his wife Sophie. There was another car in front of him. One of the Serbian nationalists in the crowd threw a bomb at the car. Archduke put his hand out to block it and it bounced of his arm, landing nearby on the street injuring a dozen people. The archduke was very angry at the town mayor and he drove to the hospital to visit those that were injured from the blast. his wife Sophie insisited on going with him. No one told the driver to go visit the hospital, so the driver kept going and turned itno some side street. Archduke Franz yelled "You are going the wrong way!!" So the driver stopped and backed up. Too late, standing two steps from the archduke and his wife was Gavrilo Princip. The slightly built man was from a group called the Black Hand, a secret society of Slavic extremists. Princip pulled out a pistol and point blank fired 2 shots. Hitting Sophie and the archduke. Both died within minutes. News spread quickly. There was actually more than 40 assassinations of political leaders between 1900 and 1914.

Whoa thanks Vigid, that enlightened me. My book covers a lot, all of world history, and it just mentions his death once or twice. Nothing that in depth.

    WW2 came after WW1.

And WW1 was known as "The Great War" before WW2.

    We (USA, Allies) won both.

    Bunch of people died.

The incident which triggered the Second World War was the simulated attack by the Germans on their own radio station near Gleiwitz on the Polish border. To make it appear that the attacking force consisted of Poles, prisoners from a nearby concentration camp were dressed in Polish uniforms then shot and their bodies placed in strategic positions around the radio station. A Polish speaking German then did a broadcast from the station to make it appear that Poland had attacked first.
This was the excuse Hitler needed to invade Poland on September 1st. 1939.
