I think they interview you first, so just act really racist and you'll get out of it. If the defendant is black/asian/spanish/jewish, whatever he/she is, act like you HATE that kind of person. They won't pick you. I wouldn't go to jury duty on halloween.

I've been in 3 times, it was basically a week off from work (There is a lot of sitting around). I was picked for a jury once, they ended up pleaing before it ever went to trial. I don't know if they do this everywhere but it got around the jury pool that when they ask your favorite color, say purple, they wont pick you (i said blue).

    Still haven't been picked.

I want them to call me, just so I can say no.

I've never been to duty, but I would think it was fun, especially if someones life was at stake.

I don't think you can actually refuse to do it - you have to have a very good reason and provide evidence, like you have some kind of history that would affect the case or your employer won't allow it. Although, come to think of it, I'm sure your employer has to allow it.

It would be quite cool to get an interesting case, though I guess there's a good chance you could end up with a contested driving offence or something shitty like that.

    Lol

ever been to the dmv??? yea... its kinda like that. you go ON TIME, wait around for about an hr, then they do roll call to make sure you are there. then you sit, and sit, and sit, and sit... for about 5 or 6 hrs. if you are lucky, they will turn on a 13 inch tv for you to watch the morning talk shows and soaps. all while sitting next to some fat lady with a bad cough. then, when you finally get in the room where they choose jurors, they go through a series of monotonous questions. people naturally try to get out of it so everyone lies and you have to sit through EVERYONE not getting picked and EVERYONE going through the same question after question after question.... to sum it up for you:

    >>>IT SUCKS BALLS<<<

Getting out of jury duty is easy. The trick is to say you're prejudiced against all races.

I would love to go to jury duty. I would be turning out like in that flick 12 Angry Men even if it was something weak like jay walking! Attaca attaca!

It's not all it's cracked up to be. You don't get paid and you miss work and you're there for 8 hours.

Fortunately, I forgot to send in my completed form in the mail and never got called. I filled it out with every intention of mailing it in because it said on there that it was a felony if you didn't, so I was all scared; filled the thing out, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it, and put it on my desk. Never saw it again after that.

jury duty isn't that bad. you go to the court house, sit in a court room with 60 or 70 other people... depending on how many of them came up with good excuses to get out of it.
first thing they'll ask is if you know anything about the trial... and they'll ask everyone individually... it'll go something like this

"blah blah blah... do you know anything about this trial?"
and they'll go down the line to everyone in the room. all they want is yes or no.

that's basically how it goes. the attorneys will ask a bunch of yes and no questions, ask you to explain if necessary.

if you're near the end of the list when they put you in a seating order, i wouldn't worry too much about having to actually serve. they will take the first 12 people that they can agree on.

it's a long, boring process that takes a few days. but, it will get you out of work for that time... which is especially good if you work for a company that will continue to pay you while you're on jury duty.
when i was summoned for that stuff, i was done by about 2PM for the 3 days of the selection process, was nice to be off that early for a few days.

Jury summons is bullshit. They summoned my brother when he was busting his ass to get out of debt. He missed work for the trial and couldn't pay rent so my mom had to help him out. Maybe rich people can afford that shit, but not all of us.

Shoot yourself in the stomach with a nail gun to get out of it.

Wrong! they paid me like $1.50 a hour to be there Plus gas to and from plus money for meals. and on top of that I was working at albertsons and they paid me for a 8 hour shift everyday I had jurt duty. So I got paid for 40 hours for my week of jury duty from my job plus the state was paying me. it was a great time for me, I just sat there trying to not be seen sleeping.

EDIT ok not all jobs pay you still, but the state should have gave you something.
