For those who don't click links, basically Microsoft's fall Live update was known to destroy some systems, especially modded ones. While Microsoft is fixing non-modded systems for free, they are telling people who modded their system tough luck.

Personally, Microsoft deserves to be screwed over on this. If you change something in your car, then take it to the dealership and they sabatoge it, the dealership is responsible. Same thing here. Doing what MS is doing is nothing short of extortion and they deserve to lose whatever the lawyers can get out of them.

That's sort of the risk you take modding your system, isn't it?

I assume the modding in question is the kind that allows piracy of the games? I feel no sympathy, and Microsoft has every right to stop piracy of their software.

I don't see this case getting anywhere. The moment you open the system up is the moment you destroy your warrenty, as for mod chips, they're not going to crawl in through the disk drive.

Wtf? Modding a console is NOTHING like modding a car. If you mod your console, you void your warranty; hell, if you even OPEN UP your console and break the seal, you have voided your warranty and your console is no longer the responsibility of Microsoft. That's exactly why they don't touch any console with a broken seal on the inside of the console. If they mess it up, then they COULD get sued... it is they refusing to touch it that protects them. I swear, people are retarded.

i hope they fucked up every modded console, they ruined halo 2, that and racist 13 yr olds.

the wii and ps3 also have had update bricking problems, hopefully it doesn't spill over to them too with human stupidity.

This will just give modders (like me) another challenge. They've made over 6 diffrent versions of the original XBox - each one claimed to be "unmoddeble". Well guess what, we've been able to mod 'em all.

Microsoft wanted to break consoles that had been tampered with to do things for which it wasn't intended, like play pirated copies of games.
Thats perfectly fucking reasonable to me. Now they can keep modders from ruining fun games.
