I had this chip for the first Playstation that came out. My sister got it for me on my birthday back when they weren't illegal. She bought it off the internet. The chip is called "Game Hunter" and it allows you to play burned games on your Playstation. The Game Hunter comes with a little spring. On the back of the older playstations, there is a plastic flap that comes off when you push a little lever. Then you simply put the game hunter in the empty space.

Here is why it comes with a spring: When you open the playstation, it stops the game that you are playing so dirt can't get inside. It is because there is a button that is being pressed near the inside-back of the PS. Then on the lid right above the button, there is a pointy thing. When you close the lid the pointy thing goes into the button making the playstation think that the lid is closed. Well, you put the spring on the button, then you put the pointy thing inside the middle of the spring. That way, you can play the game with the lid open. Why would you want to do that? Well lets say that you have a CD burner on your computer. Then you go rent a playstation game at Blockbuster or Hollywood video. Next, you burn the game you rented. Then, you get a different game that you bought (not burned) and you put it into the playstation. (Remember it is open all the time because of the spring.) Then you turn on the power and a Game Hunter screen comes up. Then the game you put in will start spinning and then it stops spinning after like seven seconds. Then you take out the game and you put in the burned game in its place. Then you press start and you can play the copied game! The playstation thinks that you are still playing the non-burned game. It is cool because it is like getting a game for like five bucks.(Which is usually how much you are charged to rent games at video stores.) Almost all my games are burned.

Mod chips are good. People just don't like ripping open their £300 console.

Thats a cool X-box Madness. About my PS, I don't know what you mean by "Does it save itself to the console?" But the burnt game works and acts exactly like a regular game. You just have to do that "wait a few seconds, change the game, hit start" every time you want to play a burnt game. It doesn't get annoying or anything, it doesn't take long. And you don't have to rip open the Playstation to put the chip on, I'll put a picture of it in a few minutes............

you dont have to open up your console if you use a boot disc. It works just as good if you dont mind the 5 seconds it takes to swap the disc.
    Check it out
all you have to do is take off the front cover. no solder no breaking the seal just swap and play for $29.99
or you can get just the Boot discs and make you own slide card with a credit card for $19.99 thats what I did
