Because it's also the anniversary of John Lennon's death in 1980. December 8th is an important date in musical history.

I had a feeling it was something like that...
A lot of stuff has gone down on this date, I wouldn't be surprised this would alos be the date Jimi Hendrix got his first guitar or sumthin.
