So many people get pissed off when it comes to religion. For example the Muslims hate the Jews and vice versa. But also the pledge of alegiance... everyone makes a big deal outta that too. And then the Athiest and Christians are always arguing over whether God exists or not! I mean who cares! Oh big whoop you have to say God in the pledge of Alegiance... is Vishnu going to come and kill you? Is Allah going to put a fatwa on you? Does it really make a difference that the athiests don't beleive in God and the Christians do? It's ridiculous! Religion is causing more problems than it solves!

I agree, but few people have the bottle to say what a bloody farce all religion is.

Or maybe others lack the capacity and modesty to admit that they are not the be all and end all of the universe.

I agree. There's one going on in E/N right now and we just got over the 20 page Under God thread. What more can be said that has not already been said?

The George Bush threads are Current Events. They are all different. One is about his testimony before the 9/11 commission, one is about the economic recovery, one is about his military service, one is about Fallujia, one is about the latest poll against Kerry........

    See the difference?

Justin - I agree, religion is just too much of a passionate thing for alot of ppl. They feel the need to "defend" their beliefs, but how many wars have been fought & how many ppl slaughtered all in the name of religion? Religion is what you make it. It's whats in you- not fed to you from some "supposedly" holy person. Let the flaming commence. :p

I agree with mami.. no flaming from me. Religion is what YOU make it. I will however go one step further and say that people are passionate about two things primarily.. religion and politics. I have seen people almost come to blows over politics.
My boyfriend is a muslim and i am a christian. The Quran saids to kill all infidels, which actually means to kill anyone who tries to take your religion away from you, or to die a martyr for your religion, which christianity holds true as well.
The main religions hold true the same basic principles. They all want you not to kill and to be kind to one another. It is us as humans that twist certain comments or verses out of a bible or quran, take is out of context, and make it something else.

Hey deedee- thanks for the non flame. You always seem to be very well informed & well versed. Anyhoos- enough with the niceties! What i wanted to say was that to me science will be the new religion. There was a time when our knowledge of the world around us was so limited we had to devise these stories of enlightement & frankly we have no need for them anymore. We no longer need mythology to explain things anymore. Also I feel that the only reason ppl are still so passionate about religion isnt because they want to be- its because its been indoctrined(sp) into them since youth. I find it insulting that we are taught to believe somethng simply because someone says you must "have faith". Bleh.

aaahhh.. yes, i agree on some levels. As a young girl I had religion pounded into my skull. I was made to go to Sunday school every Sunday. If I didn't go one week I would not be able to go out with my friends and hang out as I got older. I would readily agree that when the doctrines are drilled into your head that you will naturally grow up believing these things.

While you could very well possibly be right about religion being or becoming obsolete, I do not think it is a bad thing to believe such things as long as the person who practices the religion does not use their religion for a unheathly hidden agenda, which is what commonly happens. As long as a person is not harming anyone I think it is ok. What i have always strongly disliked is people that use religion as a crutch or excuse to commit unspeakable acts, or even to tell others how wrong they are. In relation to what the person who originally started this post asked, as advanced as we are.. not many people have mastered the fine art of agreeing to disagree. You don't believe in God? What possibly does that have to do with me? I can try to ram religion down your throat if i want to, but all that will do is make you resist what i am saying more. Inevitably I have to live my life and you have to live yours as you see fit. It doesn't make you or I horrible people, it just makes us different people. I feel like I am Queen PC here.. i'm gonna shut up.

I see your point man...but I argue that religion has far more angles to it than you could ever take on Bush. Those topics you mentioned are just variants of a larger general topic ~ what George Bush is saying and doing as president. If you think its alright to start different threads concerning different aspects of Bush's actions, then it is just as appropriate to start different threads concerning different aspects of religion. Especially if you believe in a God, or Gods, Bush is so insignificant by comparison...this forum does not have the space to house everything that could be said concerning religion.

Vishnu is a God the preserves the world, Shiva is the one that destroys in Hinduism.

Okay, I know this is completely off topic, but....

BigMatt, I am horribly offended by your avatar. The disrespect shown to these poor Iraqi's has made all of America look like barbarians. The things these soldiers have done are not at all funny, and they should not be taken lightly. I say this as a soldier - one who is not at all barbaric and/or insensitive to other human beings. Please seriously consider the negative statement your avatar makes about the kind of person you are.

I am difficult to offend, please know that. Bouncing boobies and obscenities in avatars do not even register as even slightly offensive. Besides, I like ebaumsworld. Most of the content is absolutely hilarious. So please know that I am not just a prude. However, to make fun of some man's unfortunate mistreatment makes you no better than the soldiers who commited the act. I'm sorry to be such a bitch, but I think you are ignorant for using something like that as an avatar. Feel free to flame me if you like, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that this is one of those things that has crossed the line.
