I am a dad, and I own a gun.

Edit: I have told my wife, and when my son is old enough (eight), I will tell him, but I would only tell my wife where it is.

I would, however, not tell her where the ammunition is.

wow 75% of the people on this forum would shoot their spouse and have sexual intercourse with their bodies... that is somewhat disturbing...

I would tell my wife. Depends on how old the kids were. I would not tell anyone where it was.

I'd tell everyone, wife, kids, neighbors, telemarketers, everyone... then I'll go on a huge killing spree, terminating everyone I told, 'till only I was alive to rule over my bairn wasteland of human corpses.

Depends on the gun. If it's a Kalashnikov, then I wouldn't tell anyone until the day comes. If it's a hand gun, then I'd give it to my kids and tell them to have fun.

it would depend on the feelings (or irrational gun-hating feelings) of my wife & older kids(if I had any).

So many women just irrationally hate guns.

wow good poll, that was a toughy!

But I'd keep it to myself, it's for emergencies right, no point in flashing it around unless you're a Texas nut. Better to keep it concealed, and when needed it'll be there, other people knowing will just create problems. And I wouldn't want my wife to look at me knowing I have a gun stored. I just wouldn't want that.

I wouldn't keep it a secret. I wouldn't brag about it, but it's not like I would mind people knowing. I'm not going to sneak it to the car and lie about where I'm going when I go to the range.

I'd also be very confused about why I was suddenly male.

Who buys a gun to protect your family? Just buy a couple agressive unpredictable dogs like a normal person.

Where is the option of telling your kids but not telling your wife? I would hide it in my child's dresser or in their toy closet. Loaded of course.

Yeah... I think the ONLY reason to tell the wife is ONLY if she is capable (mentally & physically) of using it IF the need arises. This means she needs training on how to use it.

The husband too.

And if you are not going to tell anyone, then make a GOOD hidden compartment to hide it from everyone (but one you can access when you need to).

I would tell my wife cause ya know, if she finds it she'll be all mad and I'll have to explain and go through unnecessary drama and beer afterwards.

Kids with guns? Not cool cause what if they shot me say, in the nads?
